Set it up so you can see a 5-10 page load and correct any mistakes prior to deploying a full build...

Maybe a preview button would do this nicely with a refresh so you can check a few variations!

could you not just open the home page in a new tab and view the real site after you click update ?
work on it live and keep block search engines on until you are ready to ping it to G and B.
